JEANETTE MACDONALD
(Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer)

Born on June 18th, 1907, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
Jeanette MacDonald studied singing and dancing as a child.
At the age of fourteen she followed her elder sister,
already well known in musical comedies,
on to the stage, where she made her debut in revue.
She was a popular musical comedy star
when the screen claimed her in 1929
for the leading feminine role
opposite Maurice Chevalier in “The Love Parade”
Her latest hits are “The Firefly”
“The Girl of the Golden West”
and “Sweethearts”
She still practices singing for three hours a day,
sings in six languages,
knows the score of ten grand operas,
and is a talented pianist.
