Celtic Christmas

INSIDE NOTES:
Just as St. Nicholas traverses the globe on Christmas Eve,
spreading joy and good wishes,
we too embark on such a journey,
a journey to the storied landscape
where we discover the Yuletide spirit
and traditions of a Celtic Christmas.
The pleasant lilt of a flute begins the Christmas journey
with What Child is This? and continues its dance accompanied by
a spirited ensemble of traditional Celtic instruments,
including flute and bodhran.
Ethereal vocals, as lovely as an angel’s song,
add a tender touch to this recording
which features authentic regional tunes such as
Coleraine’s Jig/ Jackson’s Jig and Auld Lang Syne,
as well as worldwide holiday favorites
infused with Celtic charm,
including O Holy Night and Away in a Manger.
This holiday season, open your hearts
to the joyous spirit of Christmas carols
performed with traditional Celtic flair.

VOLUME TWO
THE PIPER’S CHRISTMAS
ROB CRABTREE
INSIDE NOTES:
The Christmas season, or Yule as it was called long ago,
has always been a magical time of revelry in the Celtic regions of Europe.
Making the birth of Christ, the reversal
of the annual decline of daylight
and the promise of renewal in the coming year,
Christmas imparted strength to the dwellers
of these cold and once isolated places
as they faced the long months of winter ahead.
Their rich traditions have influenced many aspects
of the Christmas festivities enjoyed by people
all around the world today.c
The Piper’s Christmas is a rare treat-
Christmas music played on the bagpipes,
the instrument favoured by the Celts
as a means of expressing emotion on the most important occasions.
Two different types of bagpipe indigenous to Scotland
are featured on this album-
the well-known Great Highland Bagpipe and its close relative,
the Scottish Smallpipe.
They provide a refreshingly different sound
to these oft-heard Christmas pieces
which will hopefully be welcomed by listeners everywhere.
Staples of Celtic music such as jigs, reels and hornpipes,
make this a well-rounded collection
sure to be a Christmas favorite for years to come.
Sit back and allow yourself to be transported to a snow-covered Celtic landscape
for a unique musical celebration.
From a Christmas service in a centuries-old Church
to a quiet repose in a firelit pub,
from a Yuletide folk dance swirling with colour
to a mystical glimpse of Father Winter in a frosty glen,
follow the Piper to a Christmas you won’t forget.
From the back cover:
In this follow-up to The Piper’s Legacy,
Braemar Gold Medalist Piper Rob Crabtree
and a small Celtic ensemble offer uniquely stirring
