WHO IS SASSOFERRATO (1609-1685) ?
 
Giovanni Battista Salviknown as Sassoferrato,
was an Italian Baroque painter
born in the town of Sassoferrato
in the region of Marche, Italy, in 1609.
He was trained in the Bolognese school of painting,
and his style was greatly influenced
by the works of Guido Reni
a prominent painter of the Baroque era.
 
Sassoferrato was known for his religious paintings,
particularly his depictions of the Virgin Mary.
He was also skilled in painting still life and landscape scenes.
His works were characterised by their gentle, serene quality
and the use of soft, delicate colours.
 
Some of his most famous works include
“The Virgin in Prayer”,
“The Madonna and Child”,
 and “The Holy Family”.
Sassoferrato’s works were widely acclaimed
during his lifetime and have continued to be admired
for their beauty and sensitivity to this day.
He died in Rome in 1685 at the age of 76.
