MALL OF ASIA (MOA as it is fondly called by the Filipinos)
is one of the many SUPERMALLS (giant malls, mega malls,
I don’t even know the difference nowadays-
they seem to be all called that way) in the PHILIPPINES.

Malling / mall-going is actually a lifestyle in the Philippines
as you can spend your day in the mall and do whatever you want
like you’re relaxing at home- apart from sleeping of course.

MALL OF ASIA is a decent choice to spend your day
when in METRO MANILA because beside it is MANILA BAY.
It was actually a reclaimed MANILA BAY, was it not?

When you are inside the mall,
you don’t feel like you are inside a block of concrete
because the design is so airy that the outside and the inside environment
seems to BLEND in a very fluid manner
a very harmonious fusion of YIN & YANG elements.
Not surprising though because the SM CONGLOMERATE
is owned primarily by the Famous SY family,
with their World Famous Patriarch the Late HENRY SY.

Everything about the mall has that “LUCKY” or “FEEL GOOD” vibes
which is both no doubt a fusion of SENSIBLE ARCHITECTURE
and CHINESE FENG SHUI PRINCIPLES.

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to EATING & DINING.
You may just prefer to grab & go eat by the beach (baywalk to be exact),
eat at the food court,
or dine in some of their choicest UPMARKET RESTAURANTS.

You can check around the boutiques or stores if that is your thing,
but seriously as for us SHOPPING has been predominantly (90%) done online-
apart from GROCERY SHOPPING
which I have a feeling
will also change significantly in the very near future.

Walking along MANILA BAY and chilling out
is what draws me to the mall
and the best time to do all that is at night- yes NIGHT TIME.

You can’t pretend to enjoy your walk during the day,
it is so hot and humid because there are no coconuts along this stretch of the beach.
Remember you’re in METRO MANILA not in BATANGAS or BORACAY lol.

In the PHILIPPINES, you really do have a NIGHTLIFE
just wandering around and MALL-HOPPING.
In the UK, forget it.
You’d be lucky to get malls still open at 7pm.
No wonder the BRITISH keep jetting off for Holidays
because they don’t know what to do with themselves
once the Winter darkness kicks in.
Well, while in the PHILIPPINES make the most of it.

Your Pounds or Dollars really go a long way-
unless you are in MAKATI CBD (Central Business District)
or BGC (Bonifacio Global City) CBD of course.

After you’ve seen all what you have to see in MOA,
make sure you venture to TAGAYTAY, BATANGAS,
or a further away AURORA PROVINCE in the North
which sits beautifully along the PACIFIC OCEAN.

When you want to explore METRO MANILA a bit more,
amp your adventure a bit further by using
the most common mode of public transport- the JEEPNEY.

Make sure you visit the UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS (UST)
as it is representative of the Philippines’
Rich SPANISH HERITAGE and ARCHITECTURE.

Don’t forget CHINA TOWN, Metro Manila’s most CHINESE of corners.
This is Metro Manila’s equivalent of
LONDON’S China Town in GERRARD STREET, LONDON.
Kid you not, London China Town is just a teaser
compared to the real deal in Manila’s China Town.

What else to do while you’re in Manila?
FOOD– Food is just everywhere.
You can eat home-cooked dishes in the Philippines
without having to cook or having to blow up your budget.

Trending now is actually the KOREAN SAMGYEOPSAL CUISINE
make sure you check for these restaurants
and read the ones with good reviews.
And when you cant be ass-ed to get out of the condo or apartment,
just order your food online- easy.

Well, if you’re in the PHILIPPINES,
you’ll find yourself attracting a bunch of curious kids.
Make sure (well its not a must actually lol)
you have a bagful of BRITISH, AMERICAN
(SWISS or BELGIAN if you’re feeling a bit more generous) Chocolates
because they will enjoy chocolates more than
anything else that you will show them.
It’s also heart-warming to see kids smile
they have the most heart-melting smiles
after eating those chocolates-
perhaps the sugar is making them do it lol.

Anyway, we hope you enjoy your stay in Metro Manila,
or Philippines for that matter.
If you are staying in Metro Manila for the night,
ALOHA HOTEL MANILA BAY is a good choice
to continue your FAR EASTERN/ORIENTAL / CHINESE-inspired Odyssey.

We are keen to hear your stories.
If you want to share your adventures with us, please do.

As always, STAY ZEN! BE ZEN!
