TEXT:
ON HER MAJESTY’S SERVICE

Colin Missenden,
Buyer of the Riding and Country Shops in Olympic Way,
has every reason to be proud of himself.
Colin is a member of the Queen’s Bodyguard
of the Yeomen of the Guard-
the oldest bodyguard in existence.

The active strength of the Bodyguard is 66.
Two centuries ago it was their duty to bounce on the Royal Mattress
and search the Royal Bedroom for intruders.
Nowadays they parade in attendance on the Monarch at State
and Ceremonial Occasions.

MASTER SADDLER

Mr Missenden came to Harrods in 1976,
having completed 22 years in the Household Cavalry
where he was Master Saddler.
He became a member of the Bodyguard in 1985,
and attends an average of 12 occasions a year.

It takes him about half an hour to get into his ceremonial uniform,
and ceremonies often involve over an hour of standing
perfectly still.
Not for the faint-hearted, but something to be very proud of.
