THE EIGHT TRAINBEARERS
TO HIS MAJESTY KING GEORGE
 
The pages of honour to the King
include those who already hold appointments in the royal household,
the number being made up by others
specially selected from families who hold a distinguished position
amongst the peers or have done something for their country.
The pages of honour carry his Majesty’s train
at the opening of Parliament
and on all occassions when the royal robes are worn.
The dress is scarlet coat with rich gold lace
and ribbons on left shoulder,
white satin waistcoats and knee breeches, 
patent shoes, and gold buckles.
   
On the occasion of a royal Court
two of the pages bear the the Queen’s train
and stand in the rear throughout the ceremony.
The pages of honour are entitled to a state carriage
to convey them to and from their homes
to the palace when they are on duty.
The appointment is considered a very high honour
and is eagerly sought after.
It carries with it a commission in a crack regiment.
 
The Hon. Mr. Knollys is of all the pages
the one most versed in Court functions.
The family of Mr. Knollys
have been confidential members of the royal household
for three generations,
Mr. Knollys, who was born in 1895,
having been appointed a page of honour
when but nine years of age.
The Marquis of Hartington
is the first of the family to act as page
during the Victorian era.

Eldest son of Marquis of Salisbury
 
THE HON. E. KNOLLYS
Was appointed a page when nine years of age.
 
MASTER ANTHONY LOWTHER
Nephew of the Earl of Lonsdale.
 
LORD AIRLIE
Succeeded to title when seven years old.
 
MASTER VICTOR HARBORD
Grandson of Lord Suffield.
Born in 1897,
and appointed a page in 1910.
 
MASTER WALTER CAMPBELL
Son of Captain Sir Walter Campbell,
deputy ranger of Windsor Great Park. 
 
 
THE SIX TRAINBEARERS
TO HER MAJESTY QUEEN MARY
 
Queen Mary will revert to the order
which obtained at the coronation of Queen Victoria
and will have her new 18-ft train
carried by young ladies.
Six have been chose for this high office,
each one being the daughter of an earl.
Their names are
Lady Eileen Butler,
Lady Dorothy Browne,
Lady Victoria Carrington,
Lady Mary Dawson,
Lady Eileen Knox,
and Lady Mabell Ogilvy.
 
Her Majesty has decreed that the young trainbearers
shall wear bridelike robes of rich white satin
and coronals of pure white flowers and leaves,
while from the coronals will depend
long veils of white silk tulle.
 
LADY EILEEN BUTLER
is the eldest daughter of the Earl of Lanesborough
and was born in 1891.
She is a great favourite in Socity,
having made her debut at a Court
of King Edward and Queen Alexandra.
 
LADY DOROTHY BROWNE
is a niece of the Earl of Kenmare.
 
LADY VICTORIA CARRINGTON
is the youngest daughter of the Earl of that name,
and is eighteen years of age.
 
LADY MARY DAWSON
is a member of the Earl of Dartrey’s family.
 
LADY EILEEN KNOX
is a daughter of the Earl of Ranfurly
and was born in 1891.
 
LADY MABELL OGILVY
is a sister of the Earl of Airlie
and was born in 1892.
This is the only instance in which
a brother and sister
are acting as trainbearers.
